How to Have Hope When You Feel Let Down by the World

This is being re-posted from The Awareness Revolution Blog – Apr 8, 2017

I get it. It can be easy to feel let down by the world right now. There are messages of hate and acts of violence are on the rise.

Yet at the same time, there have been more acts of courage, and love, and the willingness to say – no, this is NOT my world. This is not okay. I will do and be whatever it takes to change this.

We don’t necessarily have a choice about the things that occur in the world. We do have a choice in how we respond.

After the attacks in Stockholm yesterday, the city woke up still with resiliency, openness and trust; not letting the terror stop the people that know something else is possible. People were opening their homes to others who were stranded downtown after the event. Strangers were offering rides to people who were stuck in different parts of the city. Grocery stores were offering food to families who couldn’t leave the downtown. (Read more about the response HERE).

What if it is this kindness that creates and propels our society forward? What if people choosing to be present with each other can start changing the world?

A few months ago, when I read this story of New Yorkers, standing together on a subway train, seeing all the anti-semitic graffiti, and then taking it down by using the hand sanitizer they had in their bags and purses, it gave me a similar sense of hope. (read the full story HERE)

It seems to me that now is the time to reclaim and create what you envision for the world.

What do you know is possible? Instead of the separation, what else could we all create?

Don’t let the messages of hate and judgment stop you or the future we can create. Don’t let that win.

What one small thing, what act of consciousness, can you do each day that creates the world as you would like it to be?

It’s what you be and do today that creates and shapes our world tomorrow.

We, together, can create a different world.

If not us who, if not now, when?
